Dear all,

We are pleased to share that Tang Chang: Into the Heart-Mind 心鏡之景, Tang Chang’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, is now entering its final weeks.

Curated by Sheryl Gwee, former Lead Researcher of the Tang Chang Private Museum, the exhibition brings together a rare selection of Tang Chang’s works on paper from the 1960s to the 1980s, exploring his distinctive approach to landscape as a language of movement, consciousness, and inner transformation.

Rather than treating landscape simply as scenery, Tang Chang (1934–1990) approached the natural world through movement, breath, and the relationship between the body and the cosmos. Drawing from Daoist and Buddhist thought, his landscapes transform rivers, mountains, skies, and natural rhythms into gestural fields of ink, colour, and traces of the body.

The exhibition is organized around four thematic pathways:

True Forms
Ink works that distill riverscapes into flowing, calligraphic currents.

Writing the Cosmos
Landscapes of the sky, expanding and vibrating with a sense of cosmic order.

Wilderness Colors
Vivid terrains created through fluorescent washes and dragged fingerprints, where colour itself becomes landscape.

Living Traces
Landscapes of the heart-mind, where gesture becomes a record of presence and experience.

Through these works, the exhibition reveals Tang Chang’s distinctive understanding of landscape—not simply as an external subject, but as a space where the inner and outer worlds meet.
